Electric elevator desks in Prague, 1937

/ unknown photographer

Though it looks like something out of Brazil (the movie directed by Terry Gilliam, 1985), these desks were real. The Central Social Institution in Prague was home to the world’s largest vertical file cabinet, with over 3,000 drawers. The desks could move up, down, left, and right at the push of a button.
